Derick Brassard's first two-goal game and first overtime winner could not have come at a more desperate time for the Blue Jackets. Brassard, who spent weeks in the doghouse under previous Blue Jackets coach Scott Arniel, continued to emerge late in the season under interim coach Todd Richards, who has played him consistently among the club's top two lines. But Friday night's 3-2 victory in OT over Anaheim was a much-needed win on a team-level, too. After missing 10 games with a separated shoulder, Jeff Carter has been activated by the Columbus Blue Jackets. At the same time, the Blue Jackets placed defenseman Nikita Nikitin on injured reserve, retroactive to Jan. 21, with a knee injury. Carter was hurt at Anaheim on Jan. 8. A big offseason trade acquisition from Philadelphia, he has 10 goals and seven assists in 30 games.
